Edamame

One of our crops at Froggy Meadow is Edamame, also known as vegetable soybeans.  Like all our other crops they are grown using organic methods, no chemicals, pesticides, or herbicides involved.  Our edamame is available fresh, frozen, dried, or as seed for your home garden.  We are one of the few, if not the only, suppliers of fresh seasonal edamame in the Wisconsin, Illinois area.  Fresh edamame will be available locally in August. 

Edamame is one of nature's superfoods.  One half cup contains as much fiber as four slices of whole wheat bread.  It has as much iron as a 4 ounce chicken breast.  It contains key antioxidants Vitamin C and A.  Research has shown that soy protein reduces "bad" LDL chloresterol and raises levels of "good" HDL chloresterol, prevents and controls hypertension,  and may help to prevent bone loss from osteoporosis.

1/2 cup cooked edamame contains:

  • 120 calories
  • 9 grams fiber
  • 2.5 grams fat
  • 1.5 grams polyunsaturated fat (0.3 grams plant omega-3 fatty acids)
  • 0.5 gram monounsaturated fat
  • 11 grams protein
  • 13 grams carbohydrate
  • 15 mg sodium
  • 10% of the Daily Value for vitamin C
  • 10% Daily Value for iron
  • 8% Daily Value for vitamin A
  • 4% Daily Value for calcium
